Motto:
Unless the LORD build the house, the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. (Ps. 127:1)

Mission:
Our mission is to show compassion and offer hope in the Name of Jesus Christ by providing temporary housing for the homeless and assisting them to obtain spiritual and physical stability

Why does White County need a homeless shelter?
In 2005, according to national statistics, there were approximately 64 homeless families in White County, Arkansas.  In January 2007, an actual count recorded 341 persons considered homeless.  Of these, 87 were children (under age 18).  79 of the adults on record had children with them—79 homeless families!  It is these families that Jacob’s Place intends to serve.

Families in White County who find themselves homeless don’t fit the mental picture that most of us have of the bag lady on a park bench who talks to herself and spends what people give her at the corner liquor store.  Many families who have found themselves homeless have at least one parent who is employed full time.  They are living paycheck to paycheck, barely making ends meet, until an unexpected medical bill, car accident, or layoff makes them unable to pay the rent.  They find themselves getting further and further behind on their bills and pretty soon don’t know where they’ll put their children to bed at night.

Jacob’s Place is not a Rescue Mission, where vagrants line up for a bunk each night.  It will house 3-4 families for as much time as it takes them to get back on their feet.  Any families who stay longer than 2 weeks will enter a program designed to help them improve their job and life skills, learn to budget their finances, and have the end goal of successful independence.
